About American Friends of Israel Navy SEALs (AFINS)
American Friends of Israel Navy SEALs’ dual-mission is to: 1) strengthen the State of Israel through our support of Israel’s Navy SEALs (Shayetet 13), and 2) strengthen the connection between the United States’ Jewish community and Israel. We accomplish this mission by 1) supporting the high-impact programs of our renowned Israeli partner, the Atalef Foundation, and 2) growing and maintaining an engaged community of US supporters through meaningful events and interactions with those we serve. At AFINS, you can be at the forefront of service to Israel’s soldiers and veterans. In 2024, alone, we served 8,500 individuals in Israel with the help of 1,550 SEAL community volunteers.
About the Position
American Friends of Israel Navy SEALs (AFINS) seeks a motivated professional to help drive organizational growth and support key programs that are central to our mission. The Associate Director will play a crucial role in community engagement and event production, focusing on the Next-Generation Community, regional councils, galas (“Evenings of Tribute”) and the B’NaiFINS mitzvah project program. Key responsibilities will include managing committees as well as marketing and communications related to events and programs and providing support for event production.
The Associate Director will also take the lead in exploring new opportunities within these areas and may grow over time to manage additional staff in order to further develop these initiatives. This position will work closely with volunteer leaders and be a key representative of the organization.
What you will do (principal duties/responsibilities of the role on a typical day):
The ideal candidate for this role is driven by creating the best possible experience for prospective and current donors and volunteer-leaders, making it as easy as possible for them to engage and grow with the organization. You will:
Facilitate the planning and execution of events specifically designed for the rising professionals of our Next-Generation Community, in collaboration with the Next-Generation Leaders (30% of time).
Support the planning and execution of the annual Evenings of Tribute (galas) in NYC and Los Angeles as well as regional “parlor” and other smaller fundraising events (30% of time).
Manage the B'NaiFINS mitzvah project program including its promotion to Jewish day schools and synagogues, family intake and vetting, and planning and execution of projects (15%).
Manage the annual leadership Summit (two-day retreat for volunteer-leaders) as well as regional fundraising events (10%).
Represent AFINS at these fundraising and community-building events (5%).
Conduct occasional prospect research; help maintain the donor database (5%).
Support board and committee scheduling (5%).
Consistently uphold AFINS’ mission through exceptional customer service and efficient use and maintenance of resources.
Location: Remote but within comfortable commuting distance of New York City for in-person meetings and events. Occasional travel to major cities across the U.S. will be required.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of four years’ experience in one or more of the following areas, with experience managing committees: community organizing, event production, executive support or hospitality.
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in building trusted, collaborative and strong relationships with donors, lay leadership and colleagues.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and OneDrive, Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms); comfort with learning and using a donor management system.
Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Self-motivation and comfort with a remote, independent working environment.
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Positive and entrepreneurial mindset, with an orientation towards possibilities as opposed to limitations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a leader and as part of a team. Work some evenings and weekends.
Salary and Benefits
